Odyssey Virtual June 10, June 10, MondayOdyssey, Virtual, Saumil Pandya, U.S. Healthcare/Pharma Reimbursement MarketCourse Title: U.S. Healthcare/Pharma Reimbursement MarketInstructor: Saumil Pandya, SPH '99 (MHS)Brought to you by Odyssey   June 10, 2024 - July 15, 2024 (6 Sessions)  Monday,  6 PM ET  Virtual via Zoom   Course Description: The U.S. healthcare reimbursement system consists of a mix of public and private third-party coverage, in which employers, individuals and the government all contribute to the costs related to healthcare. The financial dynamics of our healthcare system make it an extremely interesting topic of discussion regardless of whether you work in healthcare or not. Although healthcare has traditionally been the domain of payers and providers, every practicing healthcare administrator and supporting industries should understand the basic principles of the administration and financing of healthcare delivery. The pharmaceutical industry is no exception. Over the past few years, increased media and policymaker focus on the price of medicines has led to anger and frustration targeted at pharmaceutical manufacturers, pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs), and health plans. Drug pricing is a complex and often confusing issue, shaped by a pharmaceutical distribution and payment methodologies that involves multiple transactions among numerous stakeholders. The U.S. healthcare reimbursement system is diverse and complex, but in this course, we will focus on developing an understanding of the evolving U.S. healthcare landscape and the role of the pharmaceutical industry. Participants will gain a better understanding of the structure of the public and private players that comprise the U.S. healthcare reimbursement system with an emphasis on the pharmaceutical market. They will learn about the funding mechanisms behind our current reimbursement system, many of the misaligned financial incentives that exist. We will explore public/private sector roles, the impact of managed care and insurance, and the positive points and unintended consequences of the drug provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, along with drug pricing/PBM reform policy proposals that are being considered to make our system function more efficiently.______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Johns Hopkins Tuition Remission Policies  Johns Hopkins alumni, staff, faculty and their spouse or domestic partners are eligible for tuition remission for Odyssey lifelong learning courses. Odyssey Virtual June 13, June 13, ThursdayFrom the Blue Marble 1972 to Brussels 2024 - An Engaging, Cross-disciplinary Tour through the Cultural History of Sustainability, Verena Ringler, Odyssey, VirtualCourse Title: From the Blue Marble 1972 to Brussels 2024 - An Engaging, Cross-disciplinary Tour through the Cultural History of Sustainability Instructor:  Verena Ringler, SAIS '01 (Dipl), '02 ( MA)Brought to you by Odyssey   June 13, 2024 - June 20, 2024 (2 Sessions)  Thursday,  1 PM ET  Virtual via Zoom   Course Description: Today's CEOs, risk managers, bank / insurance / policy leaders have to suddenly know about ecosystems and the functions and value of a jar of living, healthy soil. But - wait: already Leonardo Da Vinci observed 500 years ago that “We know more about the movement of celestial bodies than about the soil underfoot.” Definitely, today's daily headlines invite anyone of the larger Johns Hopkins community to navigate the basics of today's sustainability and "green transition" debates at least from the EU and U.S. perspectives, hopefully with active participants from other parts of the world! In this course, I offer an engaging and big picture overview on the cultural history of sustainability and its interlinkages with international relations, multilateralism, leadership/change management, European Affairs, and peace studies. In an interactive manner, students and masters from all disciplines or backgrounds will learn about the origins of today's "green transition" agendas. - While Columbus was sailing West in 1492, a Latin school teacher in the Ore mountains worked on an audacious fictional law case narrative, where Mother Nature accuses the miner of reckless exploitation. - In the same year that the Club of Rome published its report on the limits to growth in 1972, humans around the world were humbled and moved by the iconic "Blue Marble" image of planet Earth. - The European Green Deal, presented in 2019, offers a multi-faceted roadmap for the bloc of 27 countries moving to climate neutrality by 2050. Which considerations, what kind of thinking lies behind this profound economic and social reform plan? And what does the city of Venice or the Peace Palace of The Hague have to do with the Green Deal? Students understand in a lively manner that civilizational history is indeed a century-long struggle between two camps - extractionist vs. regenerative. Working ourselves through key milestones and markers, breakthroughs and setbacks on the quest for sustainability from the European and transatlantic point of view, students of this class will get a transversal and generalistic overview. Students will hopefully leave this course holistically oriented and hopefully inspired regarding today's and tomorrow's world challenges. They will be able to use this narrative, human-centered experience of our class to master their leadership challenges in their very own fields and contexts.  ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________Johns Hopkins Tuition Remission Policies  Johns Hopkins alumni, staff, faculty and their spouse or domestic partners are eligible for tuition remission for Odyssey lifelong learning courses. However, few ever see their dream come to fruition. In this six-week course, you’ll learn how to get over your fears, doubts, and procrastination habits to get your first book done. If you've ever wanted to write a book but don't know how or where to start, I will teach you a framework to break this down into small, reasonable, and realistic steps to make writing -and- self-publishing a book an achievable goal, even with a busy schedule. You'll learn the "anatomy" of a book, how to get your ideas organized into a succinct roadmap, and how to overcome writer's block. Finally, I will teach you how to approach the editing process, how to format your manuscript, how to design a cover (even if you have zero graphic design experience), and how to self-publish both your eBook and paperback editions on Amazon KDP: one of the biggest publishing platforms in the world. *Note: This course is open to both non-fiction and fiction writers.Reviews from prior students:“I thought that John did a phenomenal job both in planning content and presenting the course. His significant resources were very helpful and I will continually refer to them as I move forward in writing my book. He is very knowledgeable, having written several books on diverse topics.”” John was thorough and engaging. His handouts were extremely useful. His organization was remarkable.
