Laura Kaminsky’s As One is a chamber opera in which two voices—Hannah after and Hannah before— share the part of a sole transgender protagonist in a poignant coming-of-age story with a universal theme of identity, authenticity, and compassion.

In honor of Trans Awareness Day on Nov. 20, Motor House and Peabody Opera will present “As One,” which chronicles the coming-of-age of a trans woman. In this chamber opera for two singers and string quartet by composer Laura Kaminsky, librettist Mark Campbell and librettist/filmmaker Kimberly Reed, a mezzo-soprano and a baritone depict the experiences of its sole transgender protagonist, Hannah, as she endeavors to resolve the discord between herself and the outside world

This production is performed in honor of Transgender Awareness month.
