Volunteer Opportunities
|
|
There is always a need for enthusiastic alumni who are willing to donate their time and energy to support both the University and the School of Medicine. Here are several programs to which you can actively contribute.
Connect the Docs
Connect the Docs was created to reach out in a personal way to recent graduates of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine as they begin the early stages of their postgraduate training. This program provides a friendly face, a source of information, and a point of contact at their residency location for new MDs. If you are interested in volunteering to welcome a new resident to your institution, call 410-516-3797 or e-mail JHMalumni@jhmi.edu. For more information, please visit the Connect the Docs webpage at http://alumni.jhu.edu/medicine/connectthedocs.htm.
Class Reunions — Biennial 2009
If you're a member of the classes of 1943, 1944, 1948, 1949, 1953, 1954, 1958, 1959, 1963, 1964, 1968, 1969, 1973, 1974, 1978, 1979, 1983, 1984, 1988, 1989, 1993, 1994, 1998, 1999, 2003 or 2004, we hope you'll join us to celebrate your reunion May 31 to June 3, 2007. To volunteer for your class reunion committee, call 410-516-3797 or e-mail JHMalumni@jhmi.edu.
Alumni Council
With more than 150 members representing Johns Hopkins' eight academic divisions, the Alumni Council meets once a year to establish policy, to reacquaint members with the university and its programs, and to advise the university on alumni affairs. Members, who must be nominated, serve three-year terms, renewable once. They must be dues-paying members of the JHU Alumni Association and annually support the development efforts of the university. For more information or to express an interest in serving on the Council, call 410-516-0363 or e-mail alumni@jhu.edu.
Hopkins Ambassadors
The Johns Hopkins Postdoctoral Association has initiated the Ambassadors Program to better serve the international postdoctoral community at the School of Medicine. Each incoming researcher will have the option to be assigned a Hopkins "Ambassador," who will be preferably matched by country of origin and/or language, to facilitate the incoming postdoc with their transition into the Hopkins and Baltimore communities. Ambassadors are only asked to write a few e-mails to incoming researchers and answer their questions, but hopefully this program will lead to long-term friendships and excellent networking opportunities for those involved. If you are interested in being a Hopkins Ambassador, send your name, work phone, e-mail address, and the languages you speak to the JHPDA at ambassador@jhmi.edu. |
