There's a certain satisfaction in knowing that you can truly make a difference in the future of an institution that has made such a
meaningful difference in your own life. A gift to the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine reinforces your connection to your alma mater and supports its lasting commitment to education, collaborative research, and patient care.
Some of the School of Medicine's top financial priorities are listed below. We also welcome the opportunity to talk with you further about your philanthropic support of specific areas that may be of special importance to you.
Unrestricted Giving
Unrestricted gifts are the lifeblood of an institution and allow the School of Medicine to meet pressing needs as they arise. These critical funds help provide security and flexibility in the rapidly changing environment of an academic medical center such as Johns Hopkins.
Basic Sciences
Funding to the Basic Science departments gives our young scientists and faculty time to think, to imagine and test the creative ideas that can dramatically impact both pure scientific discovery and the practice of medicine.
Student Aid
Building a strong need-based student aid program is essential for the School of Medicine as it strives to attract the brightest students, regardless of their financial need. Eighty percent of our medical students receive some form of financial aid.
Your gifts help to ensure that the most talented students can complete their medical training without accumulating an insurmountable mountain of debts. To see a listing of scholarships at the School of Medicine, click here.
Campus Expansion and Improvement
As researchers and clinicians collaborate more closely, they need spaces that integrate research, teaching, and treatment. New clinical tools require different facilities than in the past. Improvements to existing facilities and the
construction of new buildings have become increasingly important. New structures in the planning stage include the Medical Education Building, Basic Science Research Building, the Cardiovascular and Critical Care Tower, and the Children's and Maternal
Hospital.
Welch Medical Library
The Welch Medical Library is one of the most highly regarded repositories of its kind. Today the library provides access to over 3,000 electronic journals. Your
contributions help defray the costs associated with maintaining reference
materials, databases, and services for medical researchers.
Faculty Support
Gifts to the Faculty Educator's Fund provide support to key clinical faculty, allowing them the protected time needed to develop curriculum and to teach students during clinical rotations.
