What was your favorite class and why? Who was your favorite professor? Intro to Film Production with Jimmy Joe Roche--he's a Baltimore-based artist who got his graduate degree at the local art college MICA. He offered a great mix of inspiration and information --and that class is the origin of my committed interest in making films, which is my current top priority (even though I majored in writing sems).

Where is the best place to buy textbooks? The best place to sell them? Usually got mine at Barnes & Noble--and also sold them back there. But that's probably not the best place...one time I got them off Amazon and it was a good deal cheaper if I recall correctly.

Where was your favorite place to study? Probably Gilman.

Where should 2017s turn for professional advice? Since I graduated I've been talking with the career counseling services and they've been pretty helpful. Don't be afraid to strike up relationships with professors and ask them if they know of any internships that would be good for you to apply for.

What was your favorite internship/professional experience? How did you find it? Independent Filmmaker Project-- it's a non-profit organization that supports independent cinema. I interned there the summer after my senior year. I was recommended for it by a former film professor of mine.

Where is the best place to live on campus? Where should students avoid? Probably Charles Commons or the Bradford. Although I lived in two places students probably are advised to avoid -- AMR I, and McCoy-- and was fine with both. The AMRs can be very social which is fun.

What was the most useful item you brought with you to campus? What didn't you need? Can't think of anything that isn't obvious. Barely used tennis rackets--but that might just be me. Ignore if you are avid tennis player.

How should 2017s get to know their roommates? Tough question for me because I never got to know my freshman year roommate--we always just kind of maintained a respectful distance. If you hit it off, that's great, but the main point is that you're living together, not best friends.

Where is the best place to eat on campus? Nothing's great. You might hear people complain about FFC (fresh food café) --but when it's gone you'll miss it.

What's the best DIY dorm food? Chef Boyardee

What campus tradition should 2017s not miss being a part of? Maybe the fireworks that start off Spring Fair?

Are there any Hopkins terms/quirks 2017s should learn prior to heading to campus? There are a few Hopkins inside jokes that you will become acquainted with over time--none that will particularly bewilder or inspire you.

What's the best way to stay informed about activities and opportunities? Student activity fair in the recreation center is good way to find out about organizations. Morning announcements.

What's the best campus/student resource? Definitely be on the lookout for possible research grants. I received the Woodrow Wilson Research Fellowship.

What should 2017s do to get the true Baltimore experience? If you're into the arts there's a great "underground" scene here, though I hesitate to use that word. Going to DIY (do it yourself) art and music events is the closest thing I got to the "true" Baltimore experience. And some "true" aspects of the Baltimore experience are probably very dangerous.
